A review of the past year’s performances of Berkeley works

2024:  April  March  February  January
2023:  December  November  October  September  August  July  June  May

December 2017

SUNDAY 3

DECEMBER

Trio (op. 44)

Performed by Maya Magub (violin), Christopher Gough (horn) & Scott Mitchell (piano)

A violin sighs quietly in the twilight, a piano trails behind, and a horn begins an old, sad song. Johannes Brahms discovered that when you put these three instruments together, you create a special kind of poetry. His beautiful, intensely personal Horn Trio complements Lennox Berkeley's very British vision at the heart of this concert by the RSNO’s Leader Maya Iwabuchi, Principal Horn Christopher Gough and pianist Scott Mitchell.
