The Lennox Berkeley Society
Award for Guitar Performance

The society has introduced an award for guitar performance which will be given on an annual basis. Oxford Music Festival will be holding a class for this award in January 2009. The prize will be a trophy and £200 cash. Interested guitarists should contact us using the form below for more information about the Oxford Festival and how to enter.

Rules

 

1. The candidate should present a short recital of 10-15 minutes duration
2. The performance must be judged to be one of distiction as defined by the British and International Federation of Festivals, i.e. 'an excellent performance technically and artistically'
3. In the case of the Sonatina op. 52 or the Quatre Pieces, the single work may be presented as the entire recital
4. If the Theme and Variations, op. 77, is played the balance of time should be made up by a selection from List B
5. The recital may be made up of part works and shorter pieces from Lists A and B with the proviso that List A must be represented. Minimum requirements are shown in brackets. It is important, however, to present a varied and balanced programme
6. A General Adjudicator may be employed to judge the recital. A guitar specialist is not a requirement
7. In the case of two performances of distinction, the award should be shared
